There’s so much information available via the internet and social media these days, that some of the fundamentals surrounding improving nutrition and a healthy eating strategy, have been lost in confusion or even in translation! 🤦🏽♂️
If tracking your macronutrients or calorie counting is not your thing and you don’t have a diploma in food labels decoding, maybe some of these simple tips could help you make smaller, more manageable steps towards choosing healthier foods.
➡️ Try and steer clear of foods with a list of ingredients as long as your arm. 🚫
The fewer ingredients, the less processed! It’s as simple as that and a really easy rule to apply. Aim to eat a majority of single ingredients foods.
➡️ Limit purchasing foods with sugar listed in the first 3 ingredients 🍬
Sugar comes in a plethora of forms and is often cleverly hidden by food manufacturers to trick us into consuming their products. Foods ending in _ose e.g. glucose, fructose, dextrose all contain sugar. Familiarise yourself with some of these and choosing wisely will reduce some of the unnecessary daily sugar intake immediately.
➡️ Avoid foods with labelling you cannot pronounce. 🤷♀️
Unless you have a chemistry degree it’s can be hard to comprehend what certain ingredients are. A sensible and nutritional option would be to limit or completely avoid these genetically modified, highly processed foods.
➡️ Support local business, buy food within your postcode.😇
This one is something I will be challenging myself to be better at. Buying a large percentage of foods from local butchers, grocers and farmers markets supports local industry. Also buying fresh, seasonal and organic produce that hasn’t travelled thousands of miles to find its way onto our supermarket shelves, or been pumped full of artificial sweeteners and preservatives will undoubtedly be better for us long term. Or ideally grow your own veggies, that way it can be picked and into the plate within minutes and therefore maintaining a higher level of micronutrients.
Good nutrition is about helping people look better. Feel better. Perform Better. Live Better. And just be better overall. If you are ready for this to be the beginning of your transformation, please complete this short form: http://bit.ly/TA1nutrition
