Should I Be Consuming More Calories For Fat Loss?

One of the most successful methods we use on our nutrition programme when it comes to fat loss with our clients is adding calories into someone’s diet. This will probably contradict many weird and wonderful protocols you have followed which only involve taking them away.

Contrary to popular belief, the body for many requires adequate food initially to get into a position to support fat loss. The bodies cells, organs and tissues all need energy. So, when we initially focus on giving the body what it needs. It’s amazing to see how the body reacts when it’s subsequently fuelled adequately. Not surprisingly when you think about it rationally we then have reports of improved sleep, mood, energy, and recovery to highlight a few other major benefits.

When energy and recovery improve our clients train well with focus and better clarity, they recover well and subsequently will be in a far more advantageous position to add muscle tissue. Lean muscle is highly metabolic, so I will always prioritise training that supports the development of lean tissue. A highly functional and efficient metabolism is therefore key for optimal fat loss.

Depending on where each individual client begins their journey we can often end up increasing food (most of our clients have been significantly under eating). Many clients often start the process with us feeling tired, lethargic, stressed and they also suffer from cravings as a result of following low-calorie diets and calorie-restrictive fads. These methods, although may have initial success (mainly weight loss through loss of water and muscle), are rarely sustainable, and often ends with the person adding weight back on overtime. Does this sound familiar to you?

We highlight to all of our clients the importance of quality food and appropriate timing when they’re trying to change their body shape. When they see body fat coming off and the scales changing positively, it confirms to them that eating consistently and fuelling the body appropriately to their individual requirements is paramount when it comes to fat loss and long term results.
